The French Presence in the West, 1734-1874, The Forks and the Battle of Seven Oaks in Manitoba History

This paper states that the French were the first Europeans to enter the Prairies, and because of this has a special presence at The Forks. The topics range from the arrival of Gauthier de la Verendrye in 1738, the Métis and the Northwest Company, the voyageur Jean Baptiste Lagimodiere, and the francophone and Métis demographics during the 1800’s. Photographs are included.
