Spring School Series – Indigenous Walking Tour at The Forks

Turtle Tours is now booking our Spring School Series, offering Indigenous-led walking tours designed for students to experience Manitoba’s history in the place where it happened.

Located at The Forks in Winnipeg — where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet — this guided experience brings students onto the land to learn through storytelling, place, and interactive discussion. Students walk the same ground where thousands of years of meeting, movement, and history have taken place.

Led by Indigenous guides, the tour provides a clear understanding of Treaty history, the role of The Forks as a historic gathering and trade site, and the ongoing presence of Indigenous Peoples today. The experience is designed to make history understandable, relevant, and accessible for students.

What Students Experience:

• Indigenous-led storytelling rooted in place
• Teachings on land, treaties, and early trade systems
• Interactive discussion that encourages engagement
• Learning beyond the classroom

What Students Take Away:

• Understanding of Indigenous history and treaties
• Connection to land and place
• Confidence to ask questions and engage in discussion
• A meaningful, memorable learning experience

This program is designed for Grades 4–12, and is also well suited for educators, university groups, and student organizations. It connects directly to curriculum areas including Social Studies, Indigenous Studies, Geography, Civics, Economics, and Oral History.

Experience Details:

• Duration: Approximately 60 minutes
• Group Size: Up to 30 students per booking
• Availability: April, May, and June

Spring School Rate:

$455 + fees per class (up to 30 students)

Puppy Yoga

Move. Connect. Play.

Join Explore Indigenous for a one-of-a-kind Puppy Yoga experience that blends movement, culture, and puppy love! Doors open at 6:00 PM, and the 45-minute yoga kicks off at 6:15 PM. Following the yoga class is 30 mins of puppy playtime.

Led by Indigenous yoga instructor Ali, this gentle, all-levels class is rooted in connection to the land, your breath, and yourself. In partnership with Unique Adventures Excursions by Dogsled, this experience is part of a bigger vision: creating space for Indigenous-led experiences that bring people together through culture, community, and creativity.

Pruning in the Orchard

Get your shears out for a hands-on pruning session where you’ll learn practical tips and techniques to help trees stay healthy and thrive. Sustainability Coordinator, Helga Jakobson, will walk you through the methods we use at The Forks, from shaping young growth to maintaining mature trees. Participants are asked to dress comfortably and bring their own shears.

Mini Mondays

Visit the Manitoba Children's Museum on Mondays from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM for a fun-filled day of stimulating play designed for our youngest visitors, children under 4 years old!

April's theme is all about animals. Each week, they'll explore a different animal and how it moves. Join in on a journey of learning about the animals all around us!

Lectures and Lagers: Space on Tap

Raise a glass and feed your curiosity at Lectures & Lagers! This event pairs engaging talks from local experts with a carefully curated selection of beers from The Common. Donations to The Forks Foundation will be accepted at each event. 

This first session features Dr. Philip Ferguson, an Aerospace Systems Engineer and Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Manitoba. He is also the Director of the Space Technology and Advanced Research Lab (STARLab) and holds the Magellan Aerospace / Price Faculty of Engineering Research Chair in Aerospace Technology.  

In his talk, he’ll be diving into the world of space systems engineering and Manitoba’s surprising role in it all. From the buzz around missions like Artemis II to the reality that Canada’s first lunar satellite is being built right here in Winnipeg, it’s set to be a lively conversation, pint in hand.

Full Moon Ceremony

The Full Moon Ceremony is a collaboration between Sunshine House, Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc MMIWG Liaison Unit (MKO), The Link, Manitoba Moon Voices (MMVI), Women’s Health Clinic (WHC), Inaadiziwin, Native Clan Organization, Inc. (NCO), Manitoba League of Persons with Disabilities and Medicine Bear, Ka Ni Kanichihk. This Ceremony is open to the community at large; all genders and cultures are invited to join together for teachings about feminine energy’s relationship with Grandmother Moon. Anyone who identifies with feminine energy is invited to participate in the Ceremony. Those who identify with masculine energy are invited to attend, but will observe. If you can, we ask relatives to bring your own chair, rattles and/or drums, as well as a water container to fill and take home after the Ceremony (if you wish).

Red Dress Day: Annual MMIWG2S+ Walk for Justice

May 5th, also known as National Red Dress Day, is a day set aside to raise awareness for MMIWG2S+. As well to honour the victims, families and survivors of gender base violence directed to women, and in particular to Indigenous Women. Women are sacred life givers and need to be kept safe. We will host a gathering at Oodena Circle for 6 p.m. which will contain speeches from the women and families involved, followed by a prayer walk in remembrance of those that are no longer with us and for those who bravely, and fiercely fought to stay alive. Red Dress Day: Honour & Remember MMIWG2S+

The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) Red Dress Day Memorial Walk and Ceremony takes place on May 5, 2026, starting at 10:00 AM at the Winnipeg Law Courts (408 York Ave), walking together to Oodena Celebration Circle at The Forks.

Red Dress Day is an event that is held annually - there will be speakers, drummers and singers.

Compost Week Celebration

BYOB (Bring Your Own Bucket)! Celebrate Compost Week with us and get a behind-the-scenes look at The Forks composting facility with free guided tours. At the end of the tour, visitors are welcome to fill their own bag or bucket with nutrient-rich compost to give their garden a boost! Tours include an uphill walk, so come dressed for the weather (it might get a little mucky). 

There will also be an additional free compost giveaway under the canopy starting at 10 AM, first-come, first-served, while supplies last.
