Public charity event in support of the WAG’s educational programming January 6
WINNIPEG, MB – IMAX Theatre Winnipeg – IMAX Theatre Winnipeg invites the public to step into Vincent Van Gogh’s life and art with its latest film, Van Gogh: Brush with Genius. It opens to the public Friday, January 7, 2011.
“We’re very happy to help Winnipeggers explore the work and mind of one of the greatest, and possibly most misunderstood, artists of the 19th century,” says Bong Villarba, Theatre Director, IMAX® Winnipeg. “Thanks to a wonderful partnership with the Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG), we’ll be able to introduce some exciting offers and collaborate to explore the world of art.”
IMAX Winnipeg is also working to raise funds for the WAG’s educational programming through A night out with Van Gogh, a charity event being held in advance of opening night on January 6. Tickets are only $15.
“With our city’s love for art, we anticipate a good turnout,” says Villarba. “The event is for a great cause, and there will be plenty of food and refreshments to go around. There are also some fantastic door prizes to be won.”
The evening will include a wine and hors d’oeuvre reception at 6:30pm, with an informative pre-show lecture on Van Gogh from WAG Director Dr. Stephen Borys at 7pm. The Van Gogh screening will start at 7:20pm.
Van Gogh lets us relive Van Gogh’s life, from the time of his first canvases at the age of 27 to his death in 1890. The film covers the surprisingly short 9-year period of the artist’s career during which he painted more than 900 paintings. From the Netherlands to Auvers-sur-Oise, and passing through Arles, Saint-Rémy and Paris, we follow Van Gogh’s footsteps and journey through the landscapes that inspired some of the most important works in art history. From the dazzling yellow of Van Gogh’s cornfields to the deep blue of his famous night sky, the vibrant palette of one of the world’s most dazzling painters lights up the giant screen.
The film has been rated G and has a running time of approximately 40 minutes. More information can be found at www.filmvangogh.com/index2duk.html.
