Skating Season Officially Begins
The Forks, Winnipeg – Lace up those skates! As of this afternoon, The Plaza Skating Rink is officially open.
The Plaza Skating Rink is the first of many skating surfaces to open at The Forks, and it won’t be long before the rest of Arctic Glacier Winter Park begins to open.
“We’ve been working on The Plaza Skating Rink all week,” says Kevaughn Glenday, Forks Operations Manager, “and with this nice cooler weather the rink should be in excellent condition for skaters this afternoon and we hope to have some of the trails open before the weekend.”
Worried about getting cold while changing your skates? There’s a warm solution close by. Everyone is welcome to use the atrium inside The Forks Market, behind the tower elevator, which is equipped with a warming fireplace and mats to allow for skate changing. And while you’re inside you don’t have to go far to find a steaming cup of hot chocolate or a snack.
Skate Rentals are available at Iceland Skate Rentals located adjacent to the skate changing area. Rates are $2.50 for children and seniors and only $4.50 for adults.
The rink will remain open for public pleasure skating throughout the winter season. The atrium will remain open during The Forks Market regular business hours.
