Biofuel

From French fries to tractor fuel: we’ve found a way to use the waste vegetable oil from our deep fryers to power our equipment at The Forks.

Did you know the diesel engine was originally designed to be fueled using peanut oil? This inspired us, so in 2008, we started experimenting with a local mechanic shop, Western Turbo, to operate our site equipment using the waste vegetable oil collected from the restaurants at The Forks. By filtering the oil using a centrifuge and some modifications to engines, we have successfully operated our diesel equipment year round. Currently our site truck, three of our utility vehicles, and ice resurfacer are all being fueled by waste vegetable oil.

Needless to say, you can smell us coming.
