Geothermal Heat Pump System

The Forks Market has replaced its old HVAC system with a closed vertical loop geothermal heat pump system.

Why did we choose to go geothermal?

It was time to replace our old HVAC heating system. We discovered an opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint, while at the same time eliminating our exposure to escalating energy costs. So, we installed a geothermal heat pump system that uses energy stored in the earth as well as recycles the energy produced in The Forks Market.

We drilled 168 closed vertical loops that go 300-feet into the ground at South Point. We also redesigned The Forks Market and installed 53 heat pumps throughout. This has cut up to 1.5 kilotonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year.

In the next few months, we will be installing two large-plate radiators into the bottom of the Assiniboine River, which will make our geothermal system fully functioning.
