Archaeological Monitoring of The Forks Skateboard Park

Quaternary Consultants Ltd.

Monitoring of construction yielded a total of 469 artifacts, consistently mainly of faunal remains (mostly butchering remains, but some naturally deposited specimens) with few floral remains and 2 lithic flakes. Stratigraphy is discussed in detail.

Located at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine rivers, The Forks (also known as Nestawaya in Cree) has been a meeting place for over 6,000 years – located on the original lands of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Lakota peoples and resides in the homeland of the Red River Métis.
