About The Forks

The Forks, located at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine rivers, has been a meeting place for over 6,000 years. Indigenous peoples traded at The Forks, followed by European fur traders, Scottish settlers, railway pioneers and tens of thousands of immigrants.

Over the last 35 years, we have transformed this abandoned railyard into The Forks, Winnipeg’s foremost destination, with this set of goals in mind:

The Forks shall be developed as a meeting place a special and distinct, all-season gathering and recreational place at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, through a mixed-use approach including residential, historical and cultural, institutional and supportive commercial uses.

Over four million visitors come to The Forks each year and more than 1,200 people work on this site. The Forks contributes over $235 million a year to the local economy, and is financially self-sufficient - we do not rely on government funding to operate.

The Forks is governed by a board made up of representatives appointed by the civic, provincial and municipal governments.

The Forks Market

Market Building is open daily from 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Select tenants may choose to open earlier or close later at their discretion. Please contact individual merchants for their hours of operation.

Holiday Hours – The Forks Market building is open all holidays, regular hours. Tenants are only closed on Christmas Day. NOTE: Hours are subject to change, seasonally.

Getting to The Forks

There are so many ways you can get to The Forks. Type in 1 Forks Market Road into your favourite map app. That will bring you to the centre of The Forks site, right up to The Forks Market.

Bike

Ditch the car and roll on into The Forks not having to worry about traffic delays and parking. Pedestrian and bicycle access is available along the Riverwalk or try one of the many cycling routes.

Paddle

We are located at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine rivers after all. Choose your own flotilla and dock at The Forks Historic Port. See how its done.

Skate

In the winter months, the Nestaweya River Trail can reach up to 10kms, connecting several communities to The Forks. Check out the access points and trail conditions.

Water bus service 

Serving several docks throughout downtown Winnipeg with dock to dock service, the service links Osborne Village, the grounds of the Legislature, Taché Dock, St. Boniface Hospital, and the Exchange District from its home port at The Forks. Winnipeg Waterways operates the water bus. Visit their website for information on bus rates, times, as well as tours.

Winnipeg Transit

Transit services are available to The Forks with multiple routes. Please plan a trip with Navigo, where you can ind stop schedules and view routes offered by Winnipeg Transit.

Parking

Hourly parking for visitors of The Forks is available. There are also identified accessible parking stalls close to all facilities. Visit The Forks Parking for more information.

Bus parking

We are currently unable to accommodate bus parking at The Forks. Buses are still welcome to pick up/drop off on site, but will need to arrange parking by calling 311 or 1 (877) 311-4974 outside of Winnipeg.
