Located just down the hallway from Tall Grass Prairie Bread Company, sister company Grass Roots Prairie Kitchen focuses on local food, made from scratch!

Every day we are inspired by the baskets of fresh produce farmers from across the province deliver to our little kitchen. Busy cooks mix together fresh ingredients, as the bounty of the season directs our recipes. Soup pots bubble! And roasters steam!

Everything made at Grass Roots shares the same high standards you have come to expect from Tall Grass – support of local, organic farmers and the vision of whole foods.

A good selection of vegan, vegetarian, and meat dishes you can heat and eat at home are available in our fridges and freezers. Choices rotate with the seasons and are also dependent upon the harvest. They include, but are not limited to: Half pints black bean chilli, Chickpea potato stew, Vegetarian or Bison stew, Shepherd’s pie made with local organic bison, Mac & cheese, Turkey pot pie, Vegetarian or Bison lasagne, Bison & pork tourtiere, Three rice pilaf.

You can add to the mains, with a variety of hearty soups such as: Beet borscht, Hungarian mushroom, Split pea, Roasted pepper turkey, Lentil, Tomato bruschetta, Cabbage vegetable, and Prairie avgolemono.

Salads also make a lovely side option. Try Black bean & quinoa, Citrus wild rice, Winter bean, Classic bean, Tamari orzo and Winter spelt. Paired with a bowl of our soup, the soup and salad combination works well as lunch or even a light supper.

Grass Roots is also the well-known of its incredible canning. The shop’s shelves are lined with clear glass jars of pickles and preserves. Here you will find items such as: Jams & Jellies: Saskatoon, Strawberry, Apple & wild cranberry, Chokecherry, Apricot, and Raspberry. Our Salsas - mild, medium, hot, Honey mustard, Rhubarb apple chutney, Tomato sauce and more, are certain to pique your palate. Our selection of pickles include: Homestyle dill, Bread and butter, Mustard bean, Pickled beets, Curried pumpkin eggplant and Pickled jalapeños.

Whole food traditions are preserved at Grass Roots.
