Worked Shell, A 3000 Year Old Native Campsite and Trade Centre at The Forks

Goundry, Pam

This is the second section of the chapter on Shellfish and Snail Recoveries, presenting the analysis of the shell beads and worked shell pieces found at the site. Several beads, bead blanks and a pendant are described, as well as scrap fragments, and it is suggested that bead manufacturing occurred at the site. Similar artifacts recovered from sites south and west of The Forks are discussed in some detail, and a photograph of the artifacts is included.
