Archaeological Monitoring and Impact Assessment Component of The Forks Heritage Plaza Project
Quaternary Consultants Ltd.
Report on monitoring and assessment of construction identified three distinct periods: Hudson’s Bay Company Experimental Farm (1836-1848); Railroad Development (1885-1889); Railroad (1888-1988). Monitoring of test augering and drainage line installation uncovered a single faunal deposit (bison). Mechanised excavation of two trenches yielded 763 artifacts in the following categories: transportation; architectural object; communication; lighting; clothing; recreation; food processing; detritus; glass and ceramic ornamental and storage containers; dinnerware; faunal remains. Stratigraphy is detailed, and appendices include an artifact catalogue.
