Preliminary Analysis of Fish Remains, Archaic Occupations at The Forks

This chapter presents the analysis of the 45,992 fish remains recovered during the 1993 excavations in the following sections: methodology, analysis, fish populations and the palaeoenvironment, fishing in Native North America (including ethnohistorical accounts of Precontact fishing practices and use of fish, fish as a dietary resource, archaeological evidence of Precontact fishing practices and technologies, and fish processing), and comparisons with other excavations. An appendix entitled "Summary Documentation of Fishes of Manitoba" is included.
