Smell Walk
In this 90-minute workshop, participants will begin to tune into their sense of smell as a way of exploring the unique, hybrid environment of The Forks compost site. The session starts with an introduction to aroma wheels, olfactory terminology, and microbial scent categories, then moves into a guided smell walk through the site. Participants will wrap up by gathering to reflect on their impressions and collaboratively create a participatory map of the scents present in the compost at that moment.
Participants are asked to meet at Fools and Horses in the Forks Market. The Smell Walk will continue across the Queen Elizabeth Bridge to The Forks Composting Site near the bank of the Red River.
The workshop involves a short (~300m) walk on a sidewalk and requires that participants be on their feet for an hour on uneven terrain.
