Red River Paddle Challenge
The Red River Paddle Challenge is a long-distance paddling event held annually along Manitoba's historic Red River. Marking the 100-year anniversary of the Les Voyageurs Challenge—Canada’s longest-running canoe race founded in 1926 by Winnipeg Canoe Club Commodore Fred G. Thompson—this centennial edition offers two distinct distances open to all paddle craft.
Participants can select either the standard 44-kilometer single-day course from Winnipeg to Lockport or the two-day, 110-kilometer ultra-distance staged race beginning in Ste. Agathe, stopping at The Forks Historic Port in Winnipeg, and concluding downriver in Lockport. Alongside competitive racing and category awards, the event features historical displays, live re-enactments at The Forks, commemorative apparel, and heritage programming honoring Manitoba's historic waterways.
