Tall Grass opened a cozy little bakery in the Wolseley neighbourhood of Winnipeg in 1990 – with a desire to support Manitoba farmers, and bring the production of good food to Winnipeg. Twelve years later, we were privileged to introduce organic grains and fresh milling to The Forks Market.
Every day Tall Grass celebrates the ancient tradition of bread making. Our foundation continues to be daily fresh milling of whole organic grains, including ancient varieties such as Red Fife (Halychynka), and Spelt. Our bakeries are where from-scratch creations are born, and begin to sign their own songs.
Who can resist the compelling aroma of an enormous slab of fresh whole wheat cinnamon buns wafting across our bakeries? They’re a legendary classic! Also try our breads, including customer favourites such as desem, European inspired baguettes, buns and pitas.
A variety of French-influenced savoury and sweet croissants as well as Danish pastries are a daily must for many. Our wild rice bannock is delicious plain, or celebrated with butter and a good dollop of house-made jam.
Muffins, cookies, squares, fruit loves and chocolate, carrot and lemon poppyseed cakes in two sizes are sensational and satisfying sweet treats. Or save room for our delicious deep dish pies that change with the seasons! Sold in metal plates, your plate deposit is refunded when you bring it back to the bakery.
