BirdWeather App
The BirdWeather PUC is an interface that identifies birdsong; it connects to the Cornell Lab and Chemnitz University’s BirdNet. The data is collected and supports ornithologists in understanding migratory patterns and changes to bird populations. It’s a citizen science project and has a lot of engagement from the public internationally.
Why install it now? Currently, we are redeveloping our Prairie Garden. We installed the BirdWeather PUC before the start of the redevelopment and are curious if it will help us understand the impact of planting native species that support avian pollinators. We’re working to figure out ways to understand and measure our site’s biodiversity and the impact of our efforts towards climate adaptation and more sustainable green spaces.
How does it work? You can check what birds are at the Forks any time, as it is live-detecting 24 hours a day. You can either download the BirdWeather app and follow us, check the live map on their website or check out our Tweet Sheet; our ID# is 27617 and our name is The Forks.
