National Day for Awareness of MMIWG2S

We stand together to honor and remember the MMIWG2S+ individuals and their families. Their lives matter, their stories deserve to be told, and their justice demands our action. A number of events will be hosted by local organizations at The Forks today, in honor of MMIWG2S+ people and their loved ones. All are welcome to participate.


Red Dress Day
Oodena Celebration Circle | 10am-2:30pm

The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs will be hosting an event for families affected by MMIWG2S+ to gather as a community and stand together in solidarity and support of one another. Chiefs, Elders, Survivors, and families will be in attendance to share words of strength and love. 


Painting Signs of Hope
CN Stage and Field | 2:30-4:30pm

Join VIDEA and Pitikwe Skatepark for an afternoon honoring lost loved ones, while supporting each other as a community. A Ceremony with Elder Charlotte will start the programming, followed by painting Signs of Hope, and the hanging a red dress in honor of MMIWG2S+.


Walk For Justice:
Oodena Celebration Circle | 5-7pm

For the 4th Annual MMIWG2S+ Walk for Justice, organizers are welcoming all to participate in this walk to honour MMIWG2S+ people.

This prayer and awareness walk is dedicated to supporting the families and loved ones of MMIWG2S+. Click here to learn more.

Uncommon Pours: After Dark

Join Norm Pastorin, head chef and owner of BASTA! Filipino Kitchen, and Hailey Tenant, craft beer curator at The Common, as they turn Unit 147 of The Forks Market into a late-night Filipino gastropub!

They’ll be serving five courses of Filipino bar snacks, known as pulutan, paired with tastes from The Common’s current beer list. Expect favourites from the BASTA! menu, new bites exclusive to this event, and a sweet treat to finish the night. Join us for a laidback, new-wave approach to bar food and craft beer at Uncommon Pours: After Dark.

Healing Walk and Sacred Fire

Join Wa-Say Healing Centre for a Healing Walk and Sacred Fire, dedicated to remembering the children and families impacted by residential and day schools, the 60s Scoop, and the ongoing MMIWG2S+ crisis.

The gathering will commence with a Pipe Ceremony at Oodena Celebration Circle. From there, the community will walk together to Memorial Park for a feast and sacred fire.

Bahaghari Portrait Series

In the spirit of uniting the diverse Filipinx community in Winnipeg, this project aims to photograph the queer Filipinx folks to empower and celebrate their colorful identities.

Kick off this year’s Pride Festival with with Bahaghari Pride Manitoba’s first ever portrait series called “Sama-sama!” (altogether!) photographed by Ally Gonzalo.

Taste of Asia

Taste of Asia is a celebration of culture and the food that connects our community!

In celebration of Asian Heritage Month, and in partnership with the Asian Heritage Society of Winnipeg and Foodtrip Market, everyone is welcome to Taste of Asia, a full weekend celebration at The Forks!

This year's event will feature:

Where Our Stories Meet | Parks Canada

Guided tours will start at 11:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm, on both Saturday and Sunday.

This tour will depart from outside the Travel Manitoba Information Centre (near the Johnson Terminal) and will finish at the “WINNIPEG” sign.

Tours will be approximately 60 minutes in length with a maximum of 25 guests.
All tours times will be offered in both French and English. This event is free with no registration required!

Full Moon Ceremony

This is a public event. All genders and cultures are invited for teachings about feminine energy and the moon. Those who identify with feminine energy are welcome to participate in the ceremony. Those who identify with masculine energy are invited to observe.

The Full Moon Ceremony is a collaboration between ka Ni Kanichihk Inc., Sunshine House, Manitoba Moon Voices, Inc., Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc., Huddle Ka Ni Kanichihk, QPOC Winnipeg, and Women's Health Clinic.

Synonym's Gorge Festival is around the corner, marking the start of Pride week. And this year, they're kicking things off with a Drag Brunch at The Common!

An annual gathering to honor Residential School Survivors. Hosted by the Anglican Diocese of Rupertsland, this intimate event includes sharing memories, discussions, prayers, and songs.

Beginning at 2:00pm, this event will be hosted at the Peace Meeting Site, located between the Plaza at The Forks Skate Park and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
