We're fully aware it can be a little intimidating to look at a map and muster up the courage to make the ride to The Forks on your own. SO, we partnered with the cycling experts at Bike Winnipeg to empower people to bike safely and confidently from different corners of the city to The Forks.
This series of guided group rides is designed to familiarize folks with a route to The Forks, and build confidence with urban cycling. Rides will depart from Assinibione Park, Kildonan Park and St. Vital Park, starting this weekend.
“The Forks is located where a number of neighbourhoods converge, in the heart of the city, and often a shorter bike ride away than people think,” says Paul Jordan, CEO, The Forks. “If confidence in route-planning and cycling in the city are the barriers for people, let’s work together to see more people riding to The Forks, and beyond.”
All rides are bike path-oriented to ensure a leisurely, enjoyable, safe and beautiful ride. Each trip begins with an explanation of cycling hand signals, how to shoulder check (and why it’s important!) and outlines the basic rules of the road, by the folks at Bike Winnipeg. Everybody rides together safely at a relaxed pace, through the scenic neighbourhoods of Winnipeg that lead us to The Forks.
"Bike Winnipeg is excited to be partnering with The Forks to get more people riding their bikes more often,” says Mark Cohoe, Executive Director, Bike Winnipeg. “These rides will offer some quick tips to get you up and riding safely, and provide you with some practical experience biking to The Forks (and ultimately, downtown) in a fun, low-stress group ride. We can't wait to meet you on the trails!"
