New Year's Day at The Forks!

Kick off 2024 with a New Year’s Day celebration at The Forks!

The Forks welcomes you to experience a day filled with brunch, performances, yoga, games, crafts, and outdoor activities on Monday, Jan. 1.  

“For those who have made it their resolution to have more fun, food, culture, and winter activities in 2024, New Year’s Day at The Forks will be the place to be," says Sara Stasiuk, Chief Executive Officer of The Forks North Portage. "We know people love spending time here with friends and family, so we’ve got a great lineup of activities to make the first day of the new year extra special.” 

The day's events will be inside and outside throughout The Forks site, running from 10 AM to 4 PM.  

  • Synonym and Tallest Poppy Drag Brunch 11 AM – 1 PM | The Forks Market  
    Brunch features and specials will be served throughout The Forks Market, while Synonym curated drag artists command the surrounding spaces with eight outstanding family-friendly performances! 

    Tallest Poppy, in collaboration with Passerby Cocktail Bar, will be serving up their classic brunch menu we all know and love, including their signature fried chicken and waffles. Enjoy classic bites of the Poppy paired with special New Year’s Day drinks crafted by Passerby.

  • Folklorama Performances 2 PM – 3 PM | The Forks Market – South Aisle
    Folklorama groups, Son D'Arranke and Drum Café, will be heating things up with their energetic performances in the South Aisle of The Forks Market.  

    Son D'Arranke is a group of dynamic musicians from various Latin American origins. As an emerging Winnipeg-based band, Son D'Arranke is gaining rapid popularity among audiences wherever they play.

    Drum Café is a dyamic African drumming group, who has been entertaining since 2006, with music and dance inspired by West African traditions.  

  • Board Games and Crafts with Fete Jockey 10 AM – 4 PM | The Forks Market – EQ3 Lounge
    If you’re looking to slow down and do something more relaxing on New Year’s Day, stop by the EQ3 Lounge in The Forks Market.

    There will be board games to be played for all ages, as well as crowns and puppets (plus a tiny puppet theatre for kid-led performances) for children throughout the day. Grab your favourite game squad, a festive holiday drink, and enjoy a relaxing time in the EQ3 Lounge.

  • Al Simmons' Sounds Crazy Caboose Warming Hut 10:30 AM - 11AM | Join Al Simmons by the canopy where he'll be showing off and playing Sounds Crazy Caboose, the eclectic and fun warming hut that he created! 
  • Health and Wellness Classes 10 AM – 4 PM | The Forks Market – Room 201
    New year, new ways to get active. Stop by room 201, beside Dconstruct Jewelry on the second floor of The Market, for yoga, connect, and mobility classes by Adrienne Shum and fellow instructors. 

    Classes are free to the public, but there are limited spots that are sure to fill up quickly.

  • Manitoba Music Performances 11 AM – 4 PM | Outside by the Johnston Terminal steps  
    Outdoor activities are only made better when paired with local talent and live entertainment! Come and listen to live musicians and DJs curated with Manitoba Music as they perform in Boîte à chansons, a mobile concert trailer. See the Boîte light up with the amazing talent of:

      • 11:00am | INGIA
      • 12:00pm | Louie Lovebird
      • 1:00pm | Mitchell Makoons
      • 2:00pm | The Kaptain
      • 3:00pm | Gully


    Whether you’re skating on the rink, warming up at one of the fire pits, or simply passing by, there are many ways to enjoy the local music scene on New Year’s Day at The Forks! 

  • Learn to Winter 10 AM – 4 PM | Outside by the Canopy Rink 
    Winter is just getting started. Maybe Jan. 1 will be the day to learn a new winter activity? 

    Come by and visit the helpful folks from Winnipeg Trails. They will be on-site all day to assist you in learning how to skate, cross-country ski, snowshoe, or maybe all three!  

  • Story Time in the Teepee 10 AM – 4 PM | Teepee by The Forks Historic Port 
    Join Elder Barbara Nepinak around the fire in the teepee Indigenous stories and drumming.  

  • Family Activities in Agowiidiwinan Centre 10 AM – 4 PM | Agowiidiwinan Centre
    Stop by the Agowiidiwinan Centre for family-friendly activities hosted by the Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba.
