The countdown to the countdown is on!

The Forks has long been considered the place to go for a classic New Year’s Eve celebration, complete with fireworks at midnight.

And while that is still very much the case, there is so much more happening beyond the NYE basics, both around The Forks site and inside the Market.

Arctic Glacier Winter Park and all the amazing activities that go along with that are open all day, including all of the skating rinks and trails, as well as ball hockey games which will be taking over the Plaza Parking Lot, PLUS take a few glides on the newly opened Red River Mutual Trail rink in the port.

At 4 p.m., there will also be horse-drawn wagon rides, snow sculpting, Indigenous storytelling and bannock making in the teepee, and DJ Hunnicutt and DJ Co-op will be getting a skating party started, blasting some jams from the rink in CN Field.

Over in The Forks Market, the activities start at 2 p.m. with a photo booth up on the second floor, near McNally Robinson Booksellers, and then later, embrace your artistic side with programming from Art City (for all ages!). The music kicks off around 9 p.m. with DJ Lil Win soundtracking your meal and drinks in the Food Hall, and later, at 10 p.m., there will be a sing-along lead by the Village Conservatory for Music Theatre, followed by a performance from local a cappella group Those Guys.

If you have little ones in tow, or you just want to hit the hay a bit early to start 2019 completely refreshed (no judgement!), there will be a mini fireworks display and family countdown at 8 p.m. in CN Field near the Winnipeg sign.

For the night owls, there will, of course, be fireworks at midnight in the Historic Port (near the Canopy Skating RInk).
