Festive, Family, Fun at The Forks!

Posted on Dec 08, 2023 by The Forks Market

The holiday season is just getting started, and what better way to kick off this festive weekend than with a family experience here at The Forks! There’s a handful of exciting things happening on site, from Friday to Sunday that’ll meet all your festive family needs.

Narnia at Manitoba Theatre for Young People (MTYP)

First, bring your family and watch the (artificial) snow fall in the comfort of the theatre at MTYP’s adaptation of Narnia. Travel through the wardrobe and see something described by the cast as magical, joyful, and epic.

Narnia takes you to a world of possibilities and is a magical experience of self-discovery for children and adults alike. After the show, imagine yourself in Narnia and discuss your adventures, the people you meet, and, most importantly, how you’d get there.

Narnia runs until December 23, and tickets are available here

Eaton’s Fairytale Vignettes at the Children’s Museum

When you return from Narnia, skip across the cobblestone path and step into the past at the Children’s Museum.

From now until January 7, you can visit Eaton’s Fairytale Vignettes, which previously lived in Santa’s Village on the 9th-floor annex of the well-known and loved Eaton’s downtown store.

Read the tales of some of your favourites, like Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty, as the animated characters dance and twirl before you. The displays have been fully restored by the Children’s Museum and are suitable for all ages.

The Fairytale Vignettes are included in regular admission to the Children’s Museum but are also available through a special exhibit tour on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Tours run from 11 am to 2 pm and cost $5 (plus GST) to attend.

Free Admission – Canadian Museum for Human Rights

This Sunday, December 10, is Human Rights Day—the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Gather your friends and family and join us at the Canadian Museum of Human Rights (CMHR) this weekend.

CMHR offers free admission to the public every Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. This is an excellent opportunity to check it out if you haven’t before or revisit and experience it once again. Check out the human rights exhibit and hear what human rights mean to others in their multimedia exhibit experience.

If you want to feel warm and cozy with a hot beverage and some live music, add Harrisons Coffee Co to your Forks festive weekend tour.

Orvis Thomas at Harrisons

On Sunday, December 10, Harrisons will feature Winnipeg artist Orvis Thomas in the café area at the Johnston Terminal from 2 pm to 4 pm. Stay tuned to their social channels, where they’ll be announcing weekend performances throughout the festive season.

Be sure to try one of their new holiday beverages. The eggnog latte is especially delicious.
