If you aren’t already familiar with Aroma Bistro, prepare to have your taste buds dance with Hong Kong and Sichuan-style Chinese cuisine presented in a Western style! The Winnipeg staple opened their second location here at The Forks, building off of the reputation for creative, flavour-packed dishes at their St. Mary’s location.
Aroma Bistro is the passion project of a group of chefs and experts united by a shared love of gourmet Asian-Fusion cuisine. The team is inspired to design, create and present dishes that bring joy and happiness to guests.
Chef Louie is both the owner and executive chef at Aroma Bistro. He leads the creative vision behind everything they do, from developing the dishes to shaping the guest experience.
When asked why they wanted to open at The Forks, Chef Louis said: “The Forks represents diversity, creativity, and a sense of community—all things we value deeply at Aroma Bistro. It's a place where people come to explore, to connect, and to discover something new. That's exactly the kind of energy we want to be surrounded by and contribute to.”
The restaurant is known for its hand-wrapped wonton, noodle, and rice dishes. We’re confident you’ll enjoy the flavourful and comforting gourmet dishes, many of which feature Aroma Bistro’s signature Red Chili Oil and Lala Seasoning. Their chili oil is for sale at The Forks, so you can bring that same intense aroma home.
If you’re trying Aroma Bistro for the first time, Chef Louis recommends the Chili Wonton, La La Chicken, and La La Chips.
The chili wonton is bold, silky, and layered with depth. The flavour hits you in waves— first the fragrance, then the heat, then a slow build of umami. It's become somewhat of a signature dish for Aroma Bistro.
“Those three dishes really capture the heart of what we do — flavour-forward, playful, and layered with cultural depth. It's a great first taste of the Aroma Bistro experience.”
(Fun fact: “La” means spicy in Mandarin, so these are spicy spicy chicken and chips!)
When asked to pick a favourite dish, Chef Louis had a hard time picking. “Every dish on the menu is my creation, and I spend a lot of time tasting, refining, and perfecting each one before it ever reaches a guest. They're all personal to me - each tells a different story and captures a different emotion or memory. So picking just one would be like choosing a favourite child. But if I had to, would be the Peanut Chili Wontons”
