Journeé Péché Day at The Common!

Posted on Nov 05, 2024 by The Forks Market

This year, The Common is excited to join the internationally celebrated Péché Day for the very first time!

Péché Day was launched in 2011 by Montreal’s renowned Dieu du Ciel! (DDC!) to mark the 10th anniversary of their iconic imperial coffee stout, Péché Mortel—an intense dark beer with roasted malt flavours enhanced by bitter coffee. Since then, beer lovers around the world have gathered each year to celebrate by simultaneously sampling different versions of this beloved stout, for one day only, at 45 breweries and pubs worldwide.

In the spirit of offering new and unique experiences at The Forks, The Common is setting up a special Journeé Péché Day pop up in Unit 147, where imperial stout enthusiasts and craft beer lovers can gather to savour and discuss the nuanced differences in each of these variations of Péché Mortel:

Each pour really packs a punch, with espresso content equivalent to about one shot per 10 oz and a 9.5 alc/vol—bringing a bold blend of caffeine and alcohol that’s perfect for stout lovers seeking a rich, intense experience. Just remember, this one’s a bit stronger than our usually pours, so we encourage everyone to savour the flavours and enjoy responsibly!

For our Craft Beer Curator and Cicerone, Hailey Tennant, bringing Péché Day to The Common is about two main things: trying something new and spreading the love of quality beer. "Dieu du Ciel! has always been a must on my beer bucket list," Says Hailey. "This year, I had the chance to finally check it off, tasting flight after flight, with Péché Mortel exceeding every expectation!"

And taking inspiration from the cheese boards served at Dieu du Ciel!’s Montreal taproom, we’ve partnered with Rob Stansel from Ellement. A sommelier and cheese enthusiast, Rob has curated this selection of cheeses to perfectly complement the flavours in each beer in the Péché Day lineup:

  • Cow’s Creamery 3-Year Cheddar, PEI
Pairs best with Péché Mortel Imperial Stout with Coffee
  • Missika ‘Jersey Royal’, Quebec
Pairs best with Péché Mortel Framboise
  • Alexis de Portneuf ‘Le Cendrillon’, Quebec
Pairs best with Péché Mortel Bourbon
  • Table Ronde ‘La Galette’, Quebec
Pairs best with Péché Mortel Val Ambré

We can’t wait to share this celebration and bring a taste of Dieu du Ciel!’s famed creations right here at The Common. Come, raise a glass, enjoy some cheese, and join in a worldwide toast to the artistry of Péché Mortel!
