New Bike Check at The Forks - Open for the Summer!
Active commuters coming to The Forks have a new secure place to keep their bikes. The Forks has partnered with Winnipeg Trails Association to offer the new Bike Check, a pilot project that will run throughout the summer.
“We’re excited to offer this new Bike Check to those who cycle to The Forks,” says Sara Stasiuk, Chief Executive Officer of The Forks North Portage. “We’ve heard, through our annual public surveys, that more and more people are coming to The Forks via active transportation, and many of these folks suggested they’d bike here even more often if there was a managed secure spot to store their bikes.”
Beyond standard bikes, visitors are invited to bring their e-bikes, cargo bikes, scooters, electric scooters, unicycles, rollerblades, skateboards, and wheelchairs to be checked. The Bike Check is being operated out of the atrium space on the south side of The Forks Market. Visitors can access the Bike Check from the patio.
The Bike Check furthers The Forks’ Target Zero initiative, with a goal of increasing active living in the community, and building connections to and through the site.
The Bike Check is offered for free or by donation, with proceeds raised going to support Winnipeg Trails programming.
“Our aim is to increase active transportation across our entire city, and amenities like Bike Check at The Forks are key to making cycling and commuting more accessible,” says Anders Swanson, Executive Director of Winnipeg Trails Association. “It makes total sense to partner with The Forks on this initiative.”
Bike Check at The Forks will be open 11AM to 10PM, Tuesday to Sunday, plus the three holiday Mondays throughout the summer (July 1, August 5, and September 2).
