Warm Up Like a Yeti!

Posted on Feb 07, 2025 by The Forks Market

Imagining a home for a mythical creature is an exciting design challenge, and it's one that Art City eagerly embraced this winter!

Art City, a not-for-profit community art studio located in the West Broadway neighbourhood, is dedicated to providing free, innovative art programming for people of all ages. Each year, Art City co-hosts the West Broadway SNOBALL Winter Carnival, where their winter mascot, The Yeti, takes center stage.

In preparation for this year's event, Art City program participants dreamed up and sketched their own versions of the Yeti’s home. One standout design, created by a creative participant named Ashton, was chosen to be built at a 1:1 scale and brought to the Nestaweya River Trail for everyone to enjoy!

The talented Art City team has once again transformed a concept into an interactive, full-scale structure. Last year, they crafted the eye-catching "I Love You" sign at The Forks Port rink. It was a heartwarming message to winter, offered during a fleeting and substandard winter season. This year, with a more classic winter in full swing, they've built a whimsical yeti hut, true to its original design.

You can find this special community creation along the Assiniboine section of the Nestaweya River Trail, just west of the Osborne Street Bridge. As part of this year's Nestaweya River Trail celebrations, the yeti's home is a must-see addition to the season.

Stop by and experience this enchanting creation that celebrates both the imagination of Art City participants and the magic of community and creativity brought to the Nestaweya River Trail.
