Posted on Aug 09, 2024 by The Forks Market

This summer, The Plaza at The Forks, once again, has been buzzing with the thrill of skateboarding, thanks to the incredible free lessons offered by the local shop, Sk8 Skates (who also happen to have their shop popped up in The Forks Market for the season).

From beginners finding their balance to seasoned skaters looking to polish their tricks, these lessons are a celebration of skateboarding, skill, and community—and they’re open to everyone!

Since the start of this season, these young skaters have been sharing their passion for skateboarding with anyone eager to learn or improve. Every Tuesday through Saturday from 12 PM to 2 PM, you can find them at the Plaza, hanging out and working with skaters of all ages and skill levels. Whether you’re 3 or 60, a total newbie or a confident skateboarder, there’s a place for you at these sessions. But hurry—the last lesson of the season is on August 16!

What makes this program truly special is the spirit behind it. Erik and Siena, a powerhouse couple who rank among the top skateboarders in Canada, are not only sharing their expertise but also their love for the sport. They, along with the entire Sk8 Skates team, are dedicated to giving back.

Whether it’s through these summer lessons or their efforts to bring skateboarding to other communities, they’re passionate about growing the sport and making it more accessible to everyone.

Believe it or not, Winnipeg has a rich history in the skateboarding world, and Sk8 Skates is at the heart of it. For decades, they’ve been nurturing talent, hosting events, and fostering a vibrant skate culture that our whole city can be proud of. This next generation of skaters is no exception.

So, if you’re looking for something new to try, curious about the world of skateboarding, or just want to witness some rad tricks and moves, come down to The Forks and catch a session.

It’s not just a lesson—it’s a chance to connect with a special community.
