Work continues in 2026 on structural rehabilitation work on the Historic Rail Bridge. Last year, the giant concrete counterweight was taken down. Now, we're finishing that project with the removal of the steel structure that held that counterweight.
This important work is vital to make the bridge safe again. Pieces of concrete had begun to break away and fall from the counterweight, which led to the closure of the bridge in 2023. The removal of the concrete and steel around that counterweight has been completed.
The Forks Foundation is currently raising funds to reopen the bridge. You can read more about that project here.
