It has come to our attention that a group is promoting non-existent events at The Forks. These groups are approaching people via email and requesting money to participate in these events.
This week, we heard about scammers promoting a non-existent farmers’ market and asking vendors to prepay for booths. They are using this email address: forksfarmersmarket@gmail.com. If you have been contacted by anyone about this, please ignore and block them. If you have already paid money to this fake enterprise, we encourage you to contact the Winnipeg Police Service to make a formal report.
To confirm: there is no recurring farmers’ market planned for The Forks this year.
Tips to recognize and avoid scammers:
- Slow Down and Be Skeptical – scammers try to create a false sense of urgency to get you to act quickly.
- Verify the Source – does the event exist, and does it seem reputable? Is there a person you can speak with?
- Never send Money Immediately
All official events happening at The Forks will always be posted on our website. If you come across an event and are unsure if it is real, please contact info@theforks.com.
