The City of Winnipeg is preparing to demolish the old Alexander Docks. This is a necessary first step towards the long-term vision to rebuild Alexander Docks and create a new public park along the Red River.
The project will reconnect The Forks with the Exchange District and Point Douglas, creating a continuous riverfront trail extending north to Kildonan Park while providing new public access to the water. It will also preserve the site of the memorial for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit Peoples, maintained by the community since 2014.
The Forks Foundation continues to raise funds for the project and is working with public and private funding partners. Demolition is anticipated to begin this winter, with redevelopment proceeding as funding is secured.
