This year, The Forks is celebrating Earth Day through repair. It’s about fixing instead of tossing, mending instead of replacing, and finding small ways to keep good things going a little longer. Whether it’s patching up a well-loved jacket, tuning up a bike, or crafting up something unexpected something unexpected, we want to help you build the skills to keep items out of the landfill and move us closer to Target Zero.

“Repair is a critical step towards a circular economy, and an ethos that aligns with environmental stewardship,” says Helga Jakobson, Sustainability Coordinator at The Forks. “Earth Day at the Forks this year will focus on keeping items out of the landfill and empowering individuals to learn skills to keep their items in use for longer.”
The celebration this year includes the first-ever Fixing Fashion Show. Sixteen local designers will take to the stage, Project Runway-style, tackling the creative challenge of transforming pre-loved textiles into something new.

“We challenged ourselves to find inspiration in the overlooked,” says Alisha Murray, CEO and Creative Director at Reclothify, “and in doing so, we are proving that ‘waste’ is often just a lack of imagination when you see the potential in what’s already here.”

Pick up a free mending kit and get creative at ArtsJunktion’s Crafting Zone. Try your hand at embroidery embellishment or print your own patch using pre-carved, repair-themed lino designs.
All You Can Patch Buffet
12:00 PM - 2:00 PM | 📍 Second Floor Lounge
Got a hole in your pants? Shirt? Bag? Get it fixed at the All You Can Patch Buffet. Ran by Louis Winter (@all_you_can_patch), he’ll be working his patch magic on your most beloved pieces. Create your patch with ArtsJunktion or choose from a selection of ready-made designs.
Bike Repairs with The W.R.E.N.C.H.
12:00 PM - 4:00 PM | 📍 The Canopy
Give your bike a tune-up! The W.R.E.N.C.H. is offering free, hands-on support to help you fix, adjust, and get your bike back in smooth working order.
E-Waste Drop-off with Mother Earth Recycling
1:00 PM - 6:00 PM | 📍 The Parking Lot
Mother Earth Recycling will be set up in The Forks Market parking lot, inviting visitors to drop off their electronic waste, and they will dispose of it responsibly!

Be ready to werk! Join us for the first-ever Fixing Fashion Show, proudly sponsored by Reclothify! Watch sixteen local designers showcase their creativity, each reimagining a single textile into unique, fashion-forward pieces. Doors open at 7:00PM and the runway kicks off shortly after. DJ Marcothatsall will be spinning tracks an hour before and after the show.
