Prairie Garden Upgrade

The Prairie Garden between The Forks Patio and Oodena Circle is currently undergoing an upgrade. We have added many new native plant species that support native pollinators. The original vision for the Prairie Garden was to have the area emulate a Tall Grass Prairie, but we discovered over the years that there simply was not enough soil depth in that location for the grasses to thrive. Located at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine rivers, The Forks (also known as Nestawaya in Cree) has been a meeting place for over 6,000 years – located on the original lands of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Lakota peoples and resides in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.
