For thousands of years, The Forks has been a gathering place for trade, ceremony, and connection for Indigenous peoples. This September 30, we invite you to spend time on site to honour that history and the experiences of Indigenous families, communities, and survivors.
From walking tours to crafts to museum exhibits, there are many opportunities throughout the day to take part and deepen your understanding of the ongoing journey toward reconciliation.
SCO Orange Shirt Day Healing Walk and Pow Wow
Oodena Circle
Join the Southern Chiefs' Organization for their 6th annual Healing Walk and Pow wow in honour of Orange Shirt Day. The day begins with an opening ceremony at 9:30 AM at Oodena Circle, followed by the Healing Walk to Canada Life Centre at 10:00 AM.
Indigenous Crafts, Stories, and Activities
The Children's Museum will be offering free general admission all day for Orange Shirt Day. Visitors can explore self-guided activities throughout the museum, along with special featured programming from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Enjoy Indigenous-inspired crafts, storytelling, fresh bannock, and other hands-on activities.
Indigenous Exhibits and Games
Take time to learn and reflect on the ongoing impacts of the residential school system with free general admission at The Canadian Museum of Human Rights for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Visitors can explore the exhibits and take part in Canoes and Rapids, a family-friendly game exploring Manitoba Indigenous histories, cultures, and languages.
Indigenous Walking Tours
Turtle Tours (The Forks Market)
Learn about First Nations history and stories passed down through generations with Turtle Tours. Rivers, Trails and Trades will be offered at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, while Under the Same Sky takes place at 7:30 PM, offering a chance to experience the night sky through an Indigenous lens.
